Dearest baby Leann,
6 more weeks and the stork will be dropping you in front of mommy and daddy's house!
So, seeing that mommy's brain doesn't seem to be functioning so well nowadays, I'm going to write down my promises to you (while I still remember them). You see, it's not just promises to you, but this will be a reminder to mommy and daddy that we are to do everything we can to help you live your life to the happiest and fullest.
We promise that, from the day that you are born, we will shower you with cuddles and kisses everyday so that you will grow up in a happy and loving family.
We promise to respect you as an individual, even though all you can probably do in the first couple of years of your life is to eat, sleep, mumble, cry and dribble.
We promise to put ourselves in your shoes and look at the world through your eyes. We understand that it can be a little overwhelming trying to take in too much too quickly when you've been growing up safely in mommy's belly for 9 months before you were shoved into our world.
We promise to constantly remind ourselves that babies are one of a kind. We will try to relate to you when you get frustrated just because your friend Billy wouldn't let you lick his saliva-coated toy or that Sally wouldn't let you share a sniff of her smelly security blanket. We promise not to judge you.
We promise to let you trip over yourself, so that you can experience things and learn about the world at your own pace. But if you ever tumble, mommy and daddy will try our very best to be there to catch you before you hit the ground, or worse case scenario, if you've actually taken a fall, please remember that mommy and daddy will always, always be there to lift you up and help you heal (so when you're older you'd better keep us posted on your life so that we can be there before you actually fall).
We promise to let you explore and make your own decisions (when you're older). We will give you suggestions and guide you through our experience. But if you ever wish to try smoking or date a punk with a gazillion piercings or something like that, please give us the heads up and even though we might not agree with the smoking and are silently thinking of hiring an assassin to get rid of the punk, we will try our best to understand and respect your decision.
Just remember that mommy and daddy will be there with open arms if anything should go wrong (but we'd rather you don't make the wrong decision in the first place, but if it needs to happen, it will happen anyway). It is your life and you should have every right to live it the way you want.
Okay, mommy's brain is going into sleep mode so I'm going to stop here (for now). And the fact that you're wiggling so much that mommy's finding it uncomfortable sitting up so we're both going to have a nice warm shower now and then it's off to bed.
Mommy and daddy will always love you, little bunny.
xoxo
